Skidby Summer Fair (2002)

INTRODUCTION

Here are some photos taken at the Skidby Summer Fair,  2002 - I came across these photos in a folder on my hard drive, where I must have placed them for safe keeping, and then immediately forget about them completely!

The fair is held annually on the playing fields at the far west of the village (off Manor Garth). It is usually an enjoyable day which is well supported by locals and visitors alike. There is usually a small entrance fee on the gate. You can have a beer (or two), a snack, be entertained (singers, dancers, magicians, Punch & Judy etc.) and maybe even snap up a bargain from the craft stalls or car boot sale.

This shot shows some of the stalls found along the perimeter of the fair. There were a few 'games-of-skill' (such as 'Hoop-La'), craft stalls (e.g. jams, cakes, embroidery etc), a fairly big car boot sale (which is out of shot at the far left of the picture) and this year there was even a 'skateboard stall' (in front of the red car).

Here's the 'coconut shy', but I'm not sure what you could win (although thinking about it, probably coconuts!).

This picture shows some of the majorettes who were performing during the course of the day. As I remember, on this part of the showground there was supposed to be a 'dog-show' too, but the word was that the organisers were quickly reminded of the fact that there is a strict no-dogs policy in the park.

Here's the constabulary upholding the law! Perhaps to make sure no-one brought any dogs in :-)

The entertainment trailer is shown here, and provided the stage for the various entertainers to perform from (see the next photo).

This young fella' pleased the crowd with his guitar and vocal talents.

I can't believe I didn't get a piccy of the beer-tent! Anyway, this one is taken against the playing field Pavillion and shows the bouncy castle and the snack area. More police too (on the black police horse) - anybody would think we're a dodgy lot in Skidby!
